What to think about before you buy?

You definitely want to protect your Kobo eReader or Kobo Wireless eReader from damage. Getting a protective Kobo cover or Kobo case should be tops on your list so you can protect your electronic reader from dings and scratches.  Wear and tear is a normal part of owning electric equipment and gadgets, but you can prevent some of the damage.  It's very important that you buy a Kobo eReader cover that will fit the dimensions of your electronic reader. Getting a generic ebook reader case won't always work. Getting a Kobo eReader case that is designed to work with your ereader device is the way to go.  Otherwise, your ereader might fall out and get damaged while you are in transit.

Questions to Ponder

Have you thought about what you want to get? Here's a list of stuff to ponder before you spend your money:

  • Do you want to have a Kobo cover that reads like a book (portfolio style)? or perhaps you want to directly hold your ereader device and a carrying case is sufficient for your needs.
  • Do you want a case with zippers do you prefer a cover with a clasp? How secure do you want your ereader in it's Kobo case or Kobo cover?
  • Do you know what material you like? Do you go for leather or faux-leather? Soft neoprene cases or hard EVA plastic cases?  Many you want a very slim skin or protective decal.
  • Do you have a favorite color? What color case or cover do you want to carry around? Black? Red? Green? Pink? Blue? Purple? They make a ton of options.  Some of the options also include patterns and other fun designs.
  • Do you want a light-weight or heavier case or cover?
  • Do you travel a lot? A heavier more durable case maybe necessary to protect your ereader if you find yourself on planes, trains, and cars on a frequent basis.

This is essential! Before buying a case, make sure the case or cover will hold your Kobo eReader in place. It should be a snug fit. Otherwise your electronic book reader will drop out and potentially get damaged.

Other Kobo eReader Accessories to Consider Getting

The top priority in protecting your Kobo eReader is probably getting a cover or case to protect it. But you might want to consider getting a bundle package that includes extra wires that come in handy for travel, like car charger. In addition, you might want to pick up a book light for the Kobo since the Kobo isn't back lit you'll need a light in certain situations where you can't control the lighting like traveling on an airplane.  These accessory bundles are a great to save money on buying multiple items.

Microfiber cleaning cloths

You are bound to get fingerprints and other stray marks on your Kobo eReader or Kobo Wireless eReader screen.  Don't clean the screen with just anything.  You should use a microfiber cloth to clean the surface to prevent scratching.  Not only are they fairly inexpensive, but they be used to clean your other electric devices like computer screens, smart phones, etc.

Many people are worried about their Kobo ereaders with the recent announcement of the closing of several Border's bookstores. As you know, you don't have anything to worry about because the device is back by the good people of Kobo. This company is going strong. You might see the Kobo ereaders, the classic Kobo (with its white exterior and big blue thumb button navigational tool), or the Kobo wireless version (it has the gray exterior and big gray thumb button) in other stores like you see the Literati.  The Literati is a color ereader that is powered by Kobo.  Not too many people know this as the color ereaders are new to the market.  It was only recently that the huge bookseller, Barnes and Noble, released a new version of their classic black and white ereader called the Nook.  Their new color version is called the NookColor.
